A killer whale attacks a group of sharks in shallow waters and then an excited dog jumps in for a piece of the action.
Video of the incredible display was shown on New Zealand television this week after it was witnessed by a group of people on Boxing Day at Blues Cliffs Beach in Southland.
An orca is seen thrashing around off the coast before a wounded shark flounders into shore.
“It would appear the whales were fighting the sharks … the sharks were coming ashore because they didn’t want to be in the water,” Blues Cliffs resident Peter Robertson told Fairfax NZ.
When the shark nears the beach a pig dog called Flea jumps into the water and begins playing with the bloodied beast.
“It was a bit of fun [for Flea], they were making a bit of a splash in the water,” Mr Robertson said.
The shark disappeared back into the sea with the high tide.
