Activists and disabled workers from the Remploy factories, whose mission is to provide sustainable employment opportunities for disable people, will take part in the demonstration in London and Sheffield.
The demonstration comes as around 1,500 disabled employees are to lose their jobs this summer with the closure of 36 of the 54 Remploy sites, reported The Independent.
Unite, Britain’s biggest union, slammed the decision saying it would be extremely hard for these people to find a job with the country’s unemployment rate standing at 8.3%.
“Our members feel outrage that the Government could take jobs from disabled people in this current climate. How are they expected to find work when there are 2.6 million people in the queue in front of them?” said Gail Cartmail, assistant general secretary of Unite.
“This decision to sack disabled workers demonstrates how intent this Government is on hitting the most vulnerable in society hardest,” Cartmail added.
