Disabled rally outside parliament

People with disabilities, their advocates and supporters will gather outside the Victorian parliament on Tuesday in their fight for better public transport with easy access.

They say Victoria’s public transport system is failing them, and that it is unsafe and leaves disabled people stranded and unable to get to the places they need.

One of the organisers of the rally, Brandon Ah Tong-Pereira from All Aboard, says people with disabilities are sick and tired of the government ignoring their needs.

“Victoria is already lagging behind in its legal obligations to increase public transport accessibility and is continuing to build and buy infrastructure that does not work for people with disabilities,” Mr Ah Tong-Pereira said.

“There are solutions for these issues but it means that in the next state budget the government needs to start spending to fix the problems.”
