Denmark eyeing mining cooperation with Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- Danish Ambassador to Tehran Danny Annan in a meeting with a high-ranking Iranian trade delegation in South Khorassan province voiced his country’s willingness to broaden mining cooperation with Iran.

“The mining sector is one of the good areas for cooperation between Denmark and South Khorassan province,” Annan said.

The Danish envoy pointed to the status quo of Iran-Denmark cooperation, and said, “Denmark and Iran have age-old relations and the diplomatic ties between the two countries date back to 81 years ago.”

He reiterated that his country enjoys advanced technology in the mining sector which it can share with South Khorassan to help promote export of minerals from the Iranian province.

In January, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined that Tehran and Copenhagen will broaden their mutual cooperation in different fields as soon as the sanctions imposed by the West against Iran are removed as a result of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“The removal of the (western) oppressive sanctions targeting Iran’s economy will take place concurrent with the JCPOA implementation which will pave the way for the removal of all barriers hindering Iran-Denmark cooperation,” Zarif said, addressing a joint press conference with his Danish counterpart Kristian Jensen.

The Iranian foreign minister reiterated that the diplomatic relations between Iran and Denmark date back to decades ago, and said, “Tehran and Copenhagen had had good relations in pharmaceuticals, irrigation, clean energies and banking sectors.”

Zarif pointed to his meeting with Jensen, and said, “During this meeting we discussed cooperation in fighting terrorism and extremism as well as regional crises.”

In September 2014, Iranian and Danish officials discussed ways of boosting all-out relations, and meantime called for a cause-and-effect study on extremism and terrorism to root out the evil phenomenon.

In a meeting between Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Consulate, Parliamentary and Expatriate Affairs Hassan Qashqavi and his Danish counterpart Egberg Mikeln in Tehran, the two officials called for enhancement of mutual cooperation, including facilitation of visa issuance for both countries’ nationals.
