The ex-lover of former NSW MP John Della Bosca gave a “grossly different” account about his wife than was shown on CCTV footage, a detective has told a Sydney court.
A constable has testified that the ex-lover, Kate Neill, said she was followed all the way up the street by the screaming wife of Mr Della Bosca, former federal MP Belinda Neal.
But Detective Senior Constable Tara Chapman said CCTV footage capturing people walking past the doorway of a convenience store showed Kate Neill was one minute behind Belinda Neal.
Belinda Neal’s lawyer, David O’Neil, suggested this was grossly different to the account Kate Neill gave to police and Det Chapman agreed.
The detective was being cross-examined on Friday in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court at the hearing of an application by police for an apprehended violence order (AVO) to be made against Ms Neal in relation to her husband’s former lover.
Det Chapman agreed that in Kate Neill’s statement she said Belinda Neal was behind her and did not say anything to her until she (Kate Neill) reached a cafe in Newtown, close to her home in Sydney’s inner west, on April 6 this year.
“Kate Neill, on her own account, spoke to Belinda Neal?,” Mr O’Neil said.
“Correct,” the detective replied.
She agreed this was a totally different to her account that Belinda Neal followed her all the way up the street screaming.
Belinda Neal is present in court, while Kate Neill is outside as she is expected to give evidence.
Mr Della Bosca is also waiting outside the courtroom.
The hearing is continuing.
