The Gold Coast will find out on Saturday morning if it has won the right to host the Commonwealth Games in 2018.
The general assembly of the Commonwealth Games Federation will vote in the Caribbean nation of St Kitts and Nevis, with the result expected to be announced about 8.30am Queensland time.
There are only two candidates for the honour of hosting the 2018 Games, with the Gold Coast the favourite to beat the little-known Sri Lankan town of Hambantota.
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh and Gold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke have been in St Kitts for a week, lobbying delegates in the final stages of the city’s bid.
If Gold Coast wins the vote it will be the fifth time the Commonwealth Games have gone to Australia, while Sri Lanka is seeking to host them for the first time.
