THE barbecues are sizzling, the beer is flowing and Daft Punk will soon be playing at the annual Wee Waa show.
While the French duo won’t be making an appearance, speculation continues to swirl that they will make their presence felt during the Australian launch party for their much-anticipated album Random Access Memories today.
If not, there are already impersonators on site at the Showgrounds to keep the 4000 locals, visitors from Australia and around the world guessing.
Brisbane friends and Daft Punk obsessives Jasmine Jesberg and Danielle O’Keefe spent more than $1000 on their Tron:Legacy inspired outfits for the launch party.
“We have been dressing as Daft Punk for a while; we love them, we are obsessed by them,” Jasmine said.
“The outfits took a lot of research and planning and money.”
Locals at nearby Narrabri thought the electronica heroes may have been among them yesterday when they heard a couple with French accents in town.
Other shopkeepers reported they had met fans from New York and New Zealand.
While the album was streaming on iTunes this week, many of the fans have avoided listening to the radio or Internet so they would hear the songs for the first time tonight when the playback on the giant LED dance floor begins at 8.30pm.
That moments comes after the pet show, dog high jump and announcement of this year’s Wee Waa Showgirl.
Random Access Memories is already No.1 on iTunes in 39 countries on pre-orders alone.
