Sexual assaults on two women in northern Melbourne this month by a man on a bike have raised fears he may strike again.
Both women tried to run but their attacker chased them down on the bike.
Police fear he will strike again, escalating his sexual assaults of strangers in broad daylight.
In both attacks, on December 15 and 26, the man approached women who were exercising alone in Coburg North.
Police say he insulted them, exposed himself, and then followed on a mountain bike as they tried to flee.
The women were then sexually assaulted.
Detective Senior Constable Kristopher Hamilton says the second attack was more severe than the first and police want to arrest him before he hurts another woman.
“It’s traumatic,” he told reporters. “They’ve got a right to feel safe and this kind of behaviour shouldn’t be happening.”
The man is believed to be in his 20s and is described as Caucasian with short dark hair and a medium build.
He wore a black Jim Beam T-shirt during one of the attacks.
