RUSSELL Brand says Tom Cruise refused to invite him to join Scientology.
The reformed drug addict says he tried to bait his Rock Of Ages co-star to try and recruit him – but Cruise wasn’t having a bar of it.
“Every so often I’d say things like ‘oh Tom, sometimes I’m a bit lost in life’ to see if he would try and get me in and he’d go ‘oh yeh, I dunno, read the bible.
“Or Tom, I wish I had a way of thinking more positively about the future.”
But Brand said the actor was entirely uninterested.
“That man had no interest in getting me into Scientology at all.”
When Conan asked if Brand was hurt that the actor didn’t want to invite him to Scientology, he replied: “If there’s a cult that don’t want me, I want to know why!”
In the end Brand said he had no ill feelings towards the star.
“He is a glorious man, and he is very kind and sweet,” Russ said. “That’s what you say if you want to continue to work in the film industry.”
