A court ruled on Monday that it is impossible to examine the new charges of tax evasion against Tymoshenko, adjourning the trial until June 25,
Tymoshenko is being treated in a clinic in the eastern city of Kharkiv near the prison where she is serving a seven-year sentence for abuse of office.
The EU sees her jailing as politically motivated and some European leaders are considering to boycott the European soccer championship matches that Ukraine will co-host with Poland from June 8 to July one.
Furthermore, the country had to cancel a regional cooperation summit this weekend after most heads of central and eastern European states canceled their visits over the Tymoshenko case.
However, authorities have ignored calls for her release and opened further charges of large-scale tax evasion and embezzlement in the 1990s when Tymoshenko was head of the gas trader Unified Energy Systems.
The former premier has been on a hunger strike since April 20 in protest over her alleged mistreatment by prison guards.
In October 2011, a Ukrainian court sentenced Tymoshenko, who is the country’s leading opposition figure, to seven years in prison and banned her from political activities for three years after her release after convicting her on several charges, including the abuse of power by signing a gas deal with Russia in 2009.
Tymoshenko has denied the allegations, saying the charges against her are politically motivated and that Ukraine has returned to the dark days of Stalinism.
