“Enemy threats are not a new issue, these threats have existed in different forms since the victory of the Islamic revolution [in 1979],” Brigadier General Hossein Salami said
The Iranian commander stressed that the ability to counter threats and to deliver a deterrent response that will make the enemies regret their actions has existed in the Islamic Republic from many years.
As Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said during a Persian New Year speech, we are not after developing nuclear weapons and this issue is forbidden by our religion but if the enemies threaten us or try to carry out their threats, we will respond with the same level of force, Salami added.
Ayatollah Khamenei said on March 20 that the Iranian nation will respond in kind to any possible attack on its soil by the US or Israel.
“We do not possess a nuclear weapon and we will not build one, but we will defend ourselves against any aggression, whether by the US or the Zionist regime [of Israel], with the same level [of force],” Ayatollah Khamenei said in an address to large crowds of people in the holy city of Mashhad on the occasion of Nowruz.
The West accuses Iran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program with Washington and Tel Aviv using this pretext to threaten Iran with a military option.
Iran rejects the allegations, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
