Costa Allegra: Seychelles prepare for stricken ship’s arrival

Alain St Ange said every effort was being made to protect the ship from the
threat of piracy.

“You could have had an attack from piracy because they come from the
other side of the islands which is the African coast, with this nagging you
in the back of your mind, it is very insecure for somebody with no way of
running away and I think once we said we are covering them with planes with
helicopters and ships they felt secure,” he said.

The ship’s Italian owner, Costa Cruises, said a plan to tow it to the nearer
island of Desroches had been aborted because it would have been harder to
moor and disembark the passengers there.

Italian prosecutors have opened
an investigation into the fire
which crippled the Costa Allegra
cruise ship in the middle of the Indian Ocean earlier this week.
