Costa Allegra passengers washing with bottled water

A port authority spokesman was asked how those passengers, including 31
Britons, who chose to leave for home immediately would be able to freshen
up. “We have two showers,” he replied. The ship’s lighting, air conditioning
and refrigerators were knocked out by the fire. Of 627 passengers, 376 have
opted to remain on the Seychelles, at Costa’s expense. The rest will be
flown home, via Rome, tonight, after docking in Mahe’s capital, Port
Victoria. Italian prosecutors have opened an investigation into the fire
which crippled the liner, owned by Genoa-based Costa Cruises.
