Cop stood down over meddle, leak claims

A senior police officer has been stood down, facing allegations of attempting to interfere in criminal investigations and inappropriately releasing information.

In statement issued at 6.25pm on the eve of the Easter long weekend, the Queensland Police Service announced a senior constable from the Metropolitan North Region had been stood down today.

“The officer, a 42-year-old man, is subject to allegations of inappropriately accessing and releasing confidential information and attempting to interfere in criminal investigations and proceedings,” police said in the statement, issued tonight.

“This does not mean that the allegations against the officer have been substantiated.”

The statement did not make clear whether the officer had been stood down with or without pay and also did not disclose the extent of the alleged release of confidential information.

Calls to the police media unit went unanswered.
