Notorious conman Peter Foster may change lawyers just weeks before he is due to stand trial for contempt, a court has heard.
Foster was arrested in November last year and charged with contempt over Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) allegations he breached an order banning him from participating in the weight-loss industry.
He was released on bail so he could care for his sick mother. The trial is set to begin next month in the Federal Court in Brisbane.
However, during a brief mention of the matter on Friday, his lawyers asked Justice John Logan to set aside one hour next week to hear arguments about whether they would continue to represent him.
Justice Logan agreed, but said the trial must still continue as planned.
Foster did not appear in court on Friday. His trial will focus on his alleged involvement in the sale and marketing of diet spray SensaSlim.
The ACCC alleges his involvement in the company between December 2009 and September 2010 directly contravened a Federal Court order made in 2005 in relation to his weight-loss company Chaste Corporation Pty Ltd.
Under that order, Foster was banned from any involvement with weight-loss or health industry products for five years.
