Clooney Arrested For Civil Disobedience

George Clooney‘s protest outside the Sudanese Embassy on Friday ended with the actor being led away by authorities.

The actor and his father, journalist Nick Clooney, were arrested for civil disobedience after protesting Sudan‘s blockage of food and other humanitarian aid from entering the country near the Nuba Mountains in the country’s southern region.

“I’m just trying to raise attention, because attention is the only way these things ever happen,” the actor said at the protest. “Let your Congress know, let your president know.

“It’s about to start raining, and once it starts raining there, thousands of people are going to die,” Clooney continued.

Adding, “We’re going to have a real humanitarian disaster.”

Along with Clooney and his father, Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia and NAACP President Ben Jealous were also arrested after being warned three times to not cross a police line outside the Sudanese Embassy.

Clooney and the others were taken away in Secret Service van.

Following the arrest, Cloonye’s rep released a statement to Access Hollywood.

“They were protesting the violence committed by the government of Sudan on its own innocent men, women and children,” the actor’s rep said in the statement. “They were demanding they allow humanitarian aid into the country before it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world.”
