CIA set to control Afghanistan after 2014

The plan revealed by Associated Press sources has not yet been presented to US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, the White House, or the relevant congressional oversight committees.

A CIA-run war will also hinder any potential for accountability and transparency, as their activities and funding would become classified and journalists or other forms of oversight would not be welcomed.

The idea revealed by a senior defense intelligence official comes as the US tries to maintain its Afghan occupation, while Obama administration can pretend they kept their promises about a withdrawal in 2014.

The Obama administration has increased the use of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) forces around the world, most notably in Africa where the US military interventions occur mostly in secret.

The United States waged a war on Afghanistan in 2011 following the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centers in New York under the pretext of the war on terror.

Despite the prolonged presence of American forces in the war-torn country, Afghanistan has become a more insecure country where the Taliban have gained more power.
