Chris Johnson plans to run for more yards in 2013 than Adrian Peterson. According to ESPN on Feb. 28, that is not all that CJ2K said in his interview, as he also plans to break Erik Dickerson’s NFL rushing record.
It was just three years ago that NFL fans debated who the best running back in the NFL was – Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson. Johnson ran for 2,006 yards in 2009 and looked like he was ready to surpass AD in the NFL rushing hierarchy, however things fell apart soon after that.
Despite CJ2K and AD heading into 2010, each with the goal of being the best, it was Arian Foster who won the rushing title. Adrian continued to run well, but Johnson slammed into a brick wall. He demanded a new contract and held out. When he finally got paid, he came back and ran for 1,047 yards, only breaking the 1,000-yard mark in the final game of the season.
It looked like Johnson was finished.
He didn’t fare much better starting out in 2012, but finished strong. Regardless, he only ran for 1,243 yards and six touchdowns. Compare those numbers to Adrian Peterson, who was less than a year removed from an ACL injury. Peterson finished the season with an NFL high 2.097 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He missed breaking Dickerson’s record by eight yards.
Now, Chris Johnson is talking again. He said he is “very confident” he will outrush Peterson in 2013. He also said he plans to break the NFL record, held by Dickerson.
“Every running back’s goal is to break that record,” Johnson said. “You want to break the 2,105. I believe I can do it.”
