She was once the proud flagship of the Soviet and Russian navies, serving them well for almost twenty years.

As well as being able to hold more than a thousand crewmen, she could be loaded with dozens of missiles – some nuclear-tipped.

But, after being sold to a Chinese company, the Kiev is now leading a much more sedate life.

That’s because the huge aircraft carrier has been transformed into a floating luxury hotel.

She is currently anchored in the Chinese port of Tianjin, where she will stay permanently docked.

Instead of being called upon to attack enemies, Wired.com now reports that she is wanted for business retreats, intimate getaways and simple relaxation.

Unlike the harsh conditions which Soviet and Russian crewmen no doubt faced, life on-board the Kiev is now much different.

She was given a multi-million dollar refit by her Chinese owners which allows her guests to sit back and relax with Western style cuisine in highly decorated luxury suites.

The thickos in UK are hell bent on turning the Ark Royal into a reef for divers? What a waste. It seems that the innovators in the country have all left.

Just another Chinese take-away in my view.

The Kiev is just the name of the class, not the name of the ship itself. “The Minsk” (Kiev class) is now moored in Shenzhen, China and is a theme park. Either the Chinese have two ex Soviet aircraft carriers, or DM should check the facts again?

The first Kiev class vessel was called Kiev and is indeed the one in the article. The Minsk was the second kiev class vessel and also sold to China as the theme park you mentioned. The DM is correct and you and those giving you green arrows are wrong.

after studying every inch of that ship they now have an idea of how to make warships fast! who are you kidding?

It’s amazing they can do it. You can see the headroom is low and most of the layout would be so cramped originally. Its also amazing Chinese people can afford to eat out. I cannot.

Er there wasn’t any photos when I first posted, sorry.

Its a good idea, Use it for Civilian business and when the time comes that the Chinese need more military hardware it’s there to be used. Great idea.

Marvelous! Britain too skink to afford one yet the Chinese can turn one into an Hotel, The Argy’s must be sniggering in their espressos. Shame on Neville

Er why no photos of the transformation ???????
