Tavakkoli’s latest production Here without Me is scheduled to be presented at the Panorama Section of this year’s festival.
A contemporary Iranian adaptation of Tennessee Williams’ Glass Menagerie, Here without Me recounts the story of a single mother working hard to find a match for her shy and lame-legged daughter, while her son dreams mostly of cinema and running away from family obligations.
Distributed by Iran’s Visual Media Institute, the movie has been screened at several international festivals such as Montreal’s World Film Festival in Canada, Hamburg International Film Festival in Germany and Pune International Film Festival in India.
Here without Me was also screened at the 2012 edition of Cleveland International Film Festival (CIFF) held in March. The film also gained international acclaim at the 2012 Tiburon International Film Festival (TIFF).
The film’s lead actress Fatemeh Motamed-Aria won the Best Actress Prize of the 2011 World Film Festival in Montreal.
Mohammad Bozorgnia’s Maritime Silk Road, Masoud Naqqashzadeh’s Child and the Angel, Alireza Raiesian’s At the Age of 40, Nader Moqaddas’s Family Relationships are other Iran’s cinematic representatives that will be presented in a special screening program.
Furthermore, from among the 10 Iranian movies that participated in the Competition Section, The Bear directed by Khosro Maasoumi was selected to vie with other chosen movies from across the world.
About 300 films from China and many countries around the world, which are competing for the “Golden Goblet” Awards, will be screened in 28 movie theaters in Shanghai.
Founded in 1993, the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) is China’s only A-category international film festival.
The 15th Shanghai International Film Festival, in which 1643 films from 106 countries and districts will compete for the “Golden Goblet” Awards, will be held from June 16 to 24, 2012.
