China probes Olympics ticket fraud

According to reports in the British media, thousands of tickets for some the sporting events including the opening ceremony have been put up for sale on black market for up to ten times their value by the members of National Olympic Committees.

A two-month undercover investigation by The Sunday Times showed that there was “widespread corruption among officials and agents controlling the tickets”.

The newspaper’s investigation revealed that 27 officials and agents from the Israeli regime, Serbia, Lithuania, and Cyprus were inclined to sell tickets for a profit.

Secretary General of the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC), Song Luzeng, said the committee would launch a “thorough and sincere internal probe” into the allegations after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) called an emergency meeting of its executive board and launched an investigation into the issue.

“We will keep a close eye on the issue and report the updated information to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in time”, said Luzeng in an interview with China’s official news agency Xinhua.

With only 38 days to go before the Olympic Games start, the ticket corruption comes as a severe blow to the management of the sporting events as some British people have failed to get any tickets for the Games.
