‘China firmly against force on Iran’

Further exchange of views and consultations between Iran and China in different spheres including the Iranian nuclear energy issue will certainly help resolving it in a peaceful way and managing developments in Tehran and Beijing’s favor, said Wu in a meeting with Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the sidelines of the 12th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the Chinese capital on Thursday.

He added that Beijing has “strategic” ties with Tehran and noted that there are no restrictions in the way of the expansion of political relations based on mutual understanding and respect for rights, national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Iran and China adopt independent approaches in the international scene and have effective cooperation in resolving regional and global issues, said the top Chinese legislator.

He emphasized that Tehran-Beijing close cooperation will help establishing peace, security and tranquility in the world.

On Wednesday, Russia and China, two veto-wielding members of the UN Security Council, opposed any use of military force and threats to do so as well as unilateral sanctions against Iran over the country’s nuclear energy program.

“Russia and China are against using military force or the threat of force against Iran, and do not approve of directing unilateral sanctions against it,” said the two countries in a joint statement.

Moscow and Beijing called for dialog to find a diplomatic solution regarding Iran’s nuclear energy program.

President Ahmadinejad, for his part, hailed as “positive and constructive” China’s stance on supporting Iran’s inalienable nuclear rights and vowed to endorse rights of the Chinese people in all international circles in return.

He added that great developments will happen in the international arena, saying, “Cooperation between Iran and China can lead such developments in favor of nations and towards justice, security and peace.”

“They will also prevent the interference and pressure of those who intend to impede the progress of countries such as Iran and China,” he pointed out.
