A Pasco police officer assigned to a task force investigating sex crimes against children is charged with raping and sexually assaulting a teen girl.
Reports said Anthony James Haworth, 38, sexually assaulted the girl on multiple occasions from the ages of 14 to 19 at a home in the 5800 block of Taft Drive in Pasco.
The victim said touching happened while Haworth was off-duty from his job as Pasco police officer and part of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force.
According to authorities, Haworth and the victim drank alcohol together while the teen’s mother was away, and Haworth later assaulted her as she was intoxicated.
The victim also stated Haworth took naked photos of her during these incidents.
Reports said the Pasco police officer also attempted to kiss and touch a childhood friend of the victim.
Detectives performed a search warrant on the Pasco home and took electronics for the investigation.
Haworth was interviewed and denied the accusations, and reports said he refused to take a polygraph.
Upon searching Haworth’s electronics, several nude photos of the victim were found. He claimed he did not know how the images wound up on his phone.
Detectives searched his iPhone backup to find messages between the victim’s friend and the victim regarding Haworth trying to kiss the friend, according to reports.
Following the investigation, Haworth was charged with rape and other sexual crimes in Franklin County Superior Court.
Authorities say Haworth has been placed on paid administrative leave with the Pasco Police Department.
He is scheduled to appear in court June 6 to enter a plea to the charges.
