“The British Foreign Office advises against visiting the North Caucasus. I take the entire responsibility to declare that it is safer in Chechnya than in England! You are welcome!” Interfax quoted Kadyrov as saying in his twitter account.
The Chechen president made the remarks after Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) “advised against” visiting the North Caucasus.
“The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises against all travel to Chechnya, Ingushetia and Dagestan and the districts of Budyonnovsky, Levokumsky, Neftekumsky, Stepnovsky and Kursky in Stavropol territory,” said a statement published on the FCO website on Friday.
“The FCO advises against all but essential travel to North Ossetia, Karachayevo-Cherkessia and Kabardino-Balkaria (including the Elbrus area)… There is a high threat from terrorism… Attacks have occurred most frequently in Moscow and in the North Caucasus,” the statement added.
The statement was issued after the US arrested two individuals of Chechen origin, identified as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his brother Tamerlan, in connection to the Boston Marathon attacks on April 15, which killed three people and wounded over 200.
On April 19, police killed Tamerlan during a shootout and engaged in a chaotic door-to-door manhunt for his brother Dzhokhar in the Boston area.
Dzhokhar, the surviving suspect in the bombings, was wounded and later captured and charged with using a weapon of mass destruction.
The two brothers are also accused of killing a police officer on the campus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology on April 18.
