Charged MP appears in Adelaide court

Fresh charges have been laid against a South Australian MP accused of possessing child pornography and he will seek to argue no case to answer, a court has been told.

The MP appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday where he had faced two counts of obtaining access to child pornography, one count of possessing child porn and one aggravated count of possessing child porn.

The court was told there would be no evidence tendered on those charges, but 12 lesser charges had been laid.

Michael Abbott QC, for the MP, told the court he would seek to argue no case to answer at the next hearing.

Mr Abbott’s client was arrested in April last year and cannot be named in the SA media because of provisions covering sex charges in the Evidence Act.
