FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda “The Syrian conflict has grown into a complex issue because different countries with varied motives are willing to intervene in it,” Mehmanparast was quoted by IRNA as saying on Friday.
He added, “While some parties claim to be supporting the Syrian nation’s legitimate demands, the situation on the ground does not suggest that attempts are being made to create an atmosphere for negotiations [between the Syrian government and the opposition].”
Mehmanparast said even if such an atmosphere is created there are certain states that do not want the opposition and Syrian government to negotiate.
The Iranian official further noted that Tehran has repeatedly voiced support for Syrian people’s demands.
He emphasized that that reforms must be undertaken by governments themselves without foreign interference in the domestic affairs of any country.
Mehmanparast also described measures taken by the Syrian government to meet public demands as positive, pointing out that certain states seek to spread insecurity in Syria and prevent the implementation of promised reforms.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that Iran fully supports the six-point plan set forth by the UN-Arab League Special Envoy on Syria Kofi Annan, adding that the plan had been positively received in the international arena.
Mehmanparast said Iran will use its full potential to facilitate talks between the Syrian government and opposition groups.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011. While the West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of the killings, Damascus blames ”outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
