A Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) internal software upgrade fault has caused some the bank’s branch offices to operate at limited capacity, and has crashed computers at its national head office.
ZDNet Australia understands that some staff at Commonwealth Bank Place in Darling Harbour, Sydney, had software updates pushed onto their computers yesterday, which led to error messages and rendered the PCs useless.
The Commonwealth Bank would not comment on whether this had occurred, saying only that an internal software upgrade had meant that 95 of its 1000 branches nationwide could only offer limited services today, such as transactions via ATMs.
Commonwealth Bank and Bankwest ATMs, EFTPOS, phone banking and online services remain unaffected.
“Our priority is on restoring all services as quickly as possible, and we apologise for the inconvenience,” CBA said in a statement. The company has not provided an estimated time of when the problem will be fixed.
The bank would not provide further details on the problem, but said that the issue was not a virus.
