The Beacon News – Aurora (IL) May 15, 2002 Valerie Milam Valerie Milam was named Miss Heart of Illinois on April 6 in Morton, Ill. She is a 1999 graduate of Yorkville High School and last year served as Miss Springfield. Milam is a student at Eureka College majoring in music education.
She performed a vocal rendition of On My Knees in the talent competition.
Her platform promotes blood donation.
Milam will compete in the Miss Illinois Scholarship pageant June 25 to 28 in Oakbrook Terrace.
The winner there will continue to the Miss America Pageant.
Spaghetti fund-raiser to help van fund The Oswego Knights of Columbus Council #7247 and the Ladies Auxiliary will host a spaghetti dinner and auction Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 197 E. Washington St., Oswego. this web site chase student loans
Dinner will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. and organ entertainment provided by Ron Newman will begin at 8 p.m. The auction will take place all evening until all items are sold.
Tickets are $7 each for those 6 and older; 5 and under eat for free.
Proceeds will fund a handicapped van for Sandra Bartels of Montgomery, confined to a wheelchair because of post-polio syndrome.

Seniors can learn about Circuit Breaker The Illinois Circuit Breaker and Pharmaceutical Assistance Informational Program will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Oswego Public Library.
No sign-up is required.
The library is located at Main and Jefferson streets in downtown Oswego.
The Circuit Breaker Program provides a yearly grant for partial relief from property or mobile home taxes, rent or nursing home charges for qualifying seniors and disabled people.
The Pharmaceutical Program helps qualified and/or disabled people pay for prescription medications.
A representative from the Illinois Department of Revenue will conduct the program.
Material to be covered includes qualifications for program eligibility and the application procedure for potential recipients.
Informational brochures and application forms will be available.

High school bands schedule two concerts The Oswego High School Bands are having two nights of concerts on Tuesday and May 22. Both concerts will be held at 7 p.m. in the school’s auditorium. go to website chase student loans
On Tuesday, the Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony will perform with guest conductor Tim Lasutzenheiser.
On May 22, the Chamber Winds, Symphonic Band and Concert Band will be performing their last concerts of the year.
The bands are under the direction of Margene Pappas, director of bands, Bradley Leeb, assistant band director, and Mindi Chase, student teacher.
The concerts are free and open to the public.
Young Eagles rally scheduled at airport The Fox Valley Sport Aviation Association, EAA Chapter 579 will hold a Young Eagle Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Aurora Municipal Airport in Sugar Grove.
Flights also will be available on June 30. Children between the ages of 8 and 17 can receive a free flight in a general aviation airplane.
Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Fay’s dinner set for Zonta Club benefit The public is invited to a Fay’s Barbecue dinner to benefit the Zonta Club of the Aurora Area from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the New England Congregational Church, 406 W. Galena Blvd., Aurora.
Meals will be drive-through only in the church parking lot.
Three entrees will be offered: two pork chops, two chicken quarters or a combination of one pork chop and one chicken quarter with baked beans, coleslaw, apple sauce and a dinner roll.

The Zonta Club is a service organization that contributes to a scholarship fund through the Aurora Foundation, the Interfaith Food Pantry, LifeSpring Center, Mutual Ground, Holiday Hopes, Just Because Kids Count and various other local organizations.
St. Charles Coast Guard boat to be christened The public is invited as the U.S. Coast Guard christens the Auxiliary Flotilla 71 New River Patrol Boat at 3 p.m. Sunday.
May 19. The boat will be docked by the River Queen boat at Pottawatomie Park, St. Charles.
The boat will be in stationed at the start of the Mid-American Canoe Race June 2 at Mount Saint Mary’s Park, St. Charles.
McNish to receive mental health award The Ecker Center for Mental Health in Elgin will honor Geneva resident Jim McNish with the Maurine Withers Award at its annual dinner May 23 in Hoffman Estates.
McNish is active in the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill Kane County South, which offers activities in education, support and advocacy.
He is a member of the NAMI state board and the executive committee.
McNish is president of McNish Corporation.
