Foreign Minister Bob Carr has met with his Libyan counterpart and called for the release of Australian lawyer Melinda Taylor from detention.
Senator Carr met with Libyan Foreign Minister Ashour bin Khayal in Istanbul on Sunday following meetings with foreign ministers from Turkey and the Netherlands.
He said on Sunday he understood Ms Taylor had met with a Libyan investigator and lawyers from the International Criminal Court in the past 24 hours in Zintan.
The UN Security Council issued a statement on Saturday urging Libyan authorities to work towards the immediate release of all International Criminal Court (ICC) members held in Libya.
The four ICC representatives have been held since June 7 when they were detained while meeting with Muammar Gaddafi’s son, Seif al-Islam.
Libya alleges Ms Taylor was carrying documents for Seif judged a threat to national security and she was placed in prison for 45 days while authorities investigate the matter further.
