The incident took place on Friday when an explosive-laden vehicle exploded in the city which is located about 110 kilometers (68 miles) west of Baghdad.
“We heard a big explosion and when we arrived at the scene we found a parked car on fire,” a police officer said on condition of anonymity.
Local security and medical sources say at least two women have been among the dead.
Friday’s incident is the latest in a string of attacks that have left more than 300 people dead across the country since June, according to a tally by AFP.
Violence has increased in Iraq since December 2011, when an arrest warrant was issued for fugitive Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi, who has been charged with running a death squad targeting Iraqi officials and Shia Muslims.
