Capello appointed as Russia manager

The RFU deputy president Nikita Simonyan said on Monday that the Italian coach will be in Moscow “in the nearest future to finalize the details of his contract and sign it.”

“Don Fabio” had been reportedly offered an annual salary of up to seven million euros (USD 8.5 million).

Capello will be the successor to Dutchman Dick Advocaat, who failed with the Russian squad in the Euro 2012 group stages.

Capello became England manager in 2008 and quit the job in February 2012.

England qualified for Euro 2012 under Capello before he resigned after falling out with Football Association chiefs after he stood by John Terry as captain despite the Chelsea man being embroiled in a racism trial which ultimately saw the defender acquitted.

The 66-year-old Italian has previously coached AC Milan, Roma, Juventus and Real Madrid during his managerial career, winning domestic titles with each.
