Cameron supports Sarkozy as president

In an interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro, Cameron declared his support for Sarkozy as a candidate for France’s presidential election which is to take place in May.

“He has done extraordinarily important things for France. It will be for the French people to decide, I do not have to interfere in this choice. Nicolas Sarkozy has my support. I say it clearly,” said Cameron.

This comes as poll results show 67 percent of French voters are against Sarkozy.

Cameron’s comments follow a meeting between the two leaders in a UK-France summit in Paris in which they discussed several issues including plots to undermine the government of the Syrian president Bashar Al Assad by supplying Syria’s armed rebels with military equipment and intelligence.

During the meeting in Paris, Cameron also gave Sarkozy a warship shell casing as a gift to mark the anniversary of Libya’s revolution as the two leaders took the lead in the invasion of the oil-rich country.

Following the UK-France Summit, Britain’s Foreign Office released a statement which clearly showed the two leaders are engaged in an anti-Syria plot planning to “increase their engagement with” Syria’s armed gangs.

Cameron’s support for Sarkozy, which the British media has denounced as being against “the long-standing convention” of British prime ministers, tells more of the two leaders’ agreements behind-the-scenes.
