NSW Opposition leader John Robertson has called for a surge in police numbers in Sydney’s gun-crime hotspots after 15 bullets were fired at a home in his electorate.
A porch and a fence at a property in Sulman Street, Doonside, were sprayed with bullets just after 10.30pm (AEST) on Friday.
Nobody was injured and police believe bikie gangs were involved.
It is the latest in a series of shootings in Sydney’s west and southwest, most of which are thought to be drug- and gang-related.
“Yet another drive-by shooting in Sydney and (Premier) Barry O’Farrell doing nothing,” Mr Robertson told reporters in Sydney on Saturday.
“The first thing you’ve got to do is proactive policing. Until there’s proactive policing on our streets we will continue to see more of these driveby shootings.
“The way you stop this is by having a visual presence of police.”
The NSW opposition say the police are understrength in Sydney’s west and southwest and have called for more officers to be deployed there.
But senior detectives have previously said increased numbers would not necessarily prevent the shootings, most of which are said to be pre-planned.
