Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) says business confidence has fallen in regions dependent on the mining and resources sector.
The NAB monthly survey shows business activity across the country dropped to its lowest level since May 2009.
However, CCIQ spokesman Nick Behrens says it is definitely not the end of the resources boom.
“There are certainly regions of Queensland that are reliant on the resources sector that now interestingly enough are reporting a more negative forecast,” he said.
“Many of these projects are now transitioning into the operational stage from the construction stage, so there’ll be a more long-term, sustainable, smoother contribution to the economy, rather than the spikes that you see when the construction of these projects is underway.”
However, Mr Behrens says while mining regions in Queensland are struggling, those reliant on tourism are reporting strong growth.
“Regions of Queensland such as the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and interestingly far north Queensland – they’re all telling us that things are starting to look brighter,” he said.
