A bushfire emergency warning has been issued for people near Northcliffe in Western Australia’s southwest after a blaze escaped containment lines to threaten lives and homes.
The fire has been burning through bushland for days, producing blankets of smoke haze across the region including Perth.
On Sunday evening the Department of Environment and Conservation issued a bushfire emergency warning for people west of the Gardner River and south of Northcliffe in the shire of Manjimup.
It said the fire had escaped containment lines and was out of control and unpredictable.
“You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive. There is a threat to lives and homes,” residents were warned.
