Belgium’s Interior minister has asked for the solidarity march in honour of the victims of this weeks Brussels attacks, to be cancelled tomorrow amid security concerns.
ITV reports:
Organisers cancelled the event following a public plea from Belgium’s Interior minister Jan Jambon asking for the demonstration to be postponed while ongoing police investigations continued.
Jambon said: “We are still all over the country in threat level three and there are enquiries, important enquiries, going on.
“For these enquiries we need a lot of police capacity all over the country and it’s our main priority to let the police in the best circumstances possible do these enquiries – that’s the reason why we invite the citizens tomorrow not to demonstrate.”
Two charged with ‘terrorist activities’ after police raids in wake of Brussels attacks
Two men have been charged with ‘terrorist activities’ following a series of police raids in the wake of this week’s Brussels attacks.
It has been reported in Belgian media that one of the suspects is the third man pictured in CCTV footage of the attackers who targeted the capital’s airport on Tuesday, but this has not been officially confirmed.
The arrests came following the shooting of a terror suspect at a Belgian tram stop yesterday as security forces continued to close in on people suspected of being connected to the coordinated attacks on Brussels airport and metro system which left at least 30 dead.
