(Scroll down for video) A Brooklyn, New York, rabbi is in hot water after getting himself arrested on attempted rape charges in Queens, according to court proceedings in Queens, New York.
Rabbi David Nathan Rabinowich and a criminal defense lawyer quickly left the courthouse last week in Queens County, in order to avoid being questioned by waiting news reporters. Police said that the 59-year-old Brooklyn rabbi thought he was sending sexually explicit instant messages to a 14-year-old girl several months ago and then again in the last two weeks.
It turns out that the girl was actually an undercover New York Police Department detective.
Detectives said that Rabbi Rabinowich used two AOL screen names, “NYC-NORMAL100” and “NORMALGENTNYC” to communicate with underage girls.
He was arrested when he left his home in Brooklyn and came to Queens to meet with the 14-year-old girl and to have sex.
Rabinowich faces one attempted rape charge and two luring a child charges. If convicted, he faces up to the four years in prison. The rabbi is due back in court next month.
