Brits distrust govt. economic policy

An opinion poll conducted by ComRes for ITV News has shown that 53% of the British people do not believe British Prime Minister David Cameron could rescue Britain from its current economic troubles, reported the Wall Street Journal.

Moreover, 60% of those surveyed said they lost their trust in British Chancellor George Osborne after he presented his 2012 budget to the House of Commons.

On 21 March, Osborne presented his 2012 budget to the parliament. The budget was heavily criticized for favoring the rich as it showed the British government had decided to cut income tax for those earning over £150,000 from 50p to 45p.

The opinion poll comes as another poll for the Sun newspaper showed Cameron’s popularity was at its lowest since he took power in 2010.

Last month, a leading global think tank, the Paris-based Organization for Economic Co-operation, said Britain would slip back into recession.

Meanwhile, the British government pledged to provide Syria’s rebels with another £500,000 as it pushed for a state surveillance scheme which would cost the British taxpayer £1.9 billion so that British officials would be able to snoop on the online activities of every person in the UK.

Furthermore, another extravagant royal ceremony marking the British Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year is likely to deliver another blow to the British economy.
