Britons protest against mass deportation

Protesters from London No Borders Network blocked the exits of Europe’s largest immigration prison, located near Heathrow airport, on Tuesday to prevent the deportation of dozens of migrants from Ghana.

Campaigners locked their arms together inside the concrete-blocks, and shouted anti-deportation slogans in order to stop the coaches carrying detainees from Harmondsworth and Colnbrook detention centres.

Yvonne Mason, anti-deportation protester, said, “My friend will be on that flight. He suffers from chronic injuries following his violent arrest during an immigration raid last year.”

While criticizing the government’s plan, Mason stressed that her friend was detained last year and had not received proper medical treatment. Rather than deporting him against his will, the government should provide him with care and support, she added.

Tuesday’s flight was the second flight carrying dozens of deportees to Ghana from Britain. The first left to Ghana last November.

UK Border Agency refused to comment on the deportations of immigrants to Ghana from an undisclosed airport. “When someone has been found not to have the right to be in the UK we would prefer they left voluntarily. Where they do not we will seek to enforce their removal,” UKBA spokeswoman said.
