RT contacted British Airways for comment. A company representative dismissed the cyberattack rumors, blaming “system failure” for the chaos. The company has not yet determined the cause of the outage, the representative said.
“Currently the only information that we have is that the systems are out because of the system outage,” the representative told RT. “More information will be available with us by evening, around 5 or 6 in the evening.”
“Basically, we’re unable to get any information, data related to the passenger flights,” he added.
Heathrow tweeted a statement confirming that all BA flights scheduled to take off from London’s two main airports before 6pm local time have been cancelled.
We apologise for the current IT systems outage. We are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

Reports have surfaced of passengers across the world affected by the outage, with delays reported in Rome, Prague, Stockholm, Malaga and Lisbon. Many passengers have criticized the airline for a lack of food and drink provided as a basic means of compensation.
Passengers experiencing delays around the world have vented their frustrations on social media.
