Britain rants about Iran elections

“It has been clear for some time that these elections would not be free and fair. [The government] has presented the vote as a test of loyalty, rather than an opportunity for people freely to choose their own representatives,” he said in a statement after millions of Iranians took to the voting stations on Friday.

Hague claimed the ballot was held in a “climate of fear” and “repression” but failed to explain how such an atmosphere is amenable to the massive public turnout, which was widely covered by news channels across the globe.

He also described the elections as not “free and fair”, but failed to clarify what exceptional record licenses him or his government to comment on the fairness of the situation when London welcomes the burgeoning ties with Bahrain on its Manama embassy website despite daily reports of the regime, killing protestors who only demand freedom and an elected-system of government.

Hague also failed to raise the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya, where Britain and its allies pledged to give local population “democracy” and “freedom” which, proved to mean death and destruction.

Only in Libya, NATO announced it undertook 27,000 sorties, which appeared to mean killing thousands of local people, and that, in the name of democracy and freedom.

“We do not believe the elections can be presented as reflecting the will of the people,” Hague further said.

Hague, however, did not clarify whether an election with a nearly record public turnout of 65 percent is unrepresentative of the “will of the people” or a government in London, which was challenged by mammoth protest rallies by hundreds of thousands of university students during the tuition fee protests, by millions of union members on November 30, 2011 and simply by the whole population during the July unrest.
