The former British Prime Minister said Sunday that the eurozone is at its end, unless Germany agrees to underwrite the debts of struggling members.
He also suggested that if the single currency stabilized, Britain could still join the Euro.
This comes as the leaders of the European Union, prepare for a crunch summit this week that could bring about the fate of the eurozone.
“The only thing that will save the single currency now is in a sense a sort of grand plan in which Germany is prepared to commit its economy fully to the single currency,” said Tony Blair.
Blair added that he had never disagreed with Gordon Brown, also a former prime minister, about the economics regarding euro membership, even though there were claims that the then-chancellor was responsible for blocking the UK’s entry into the single currency.
