A 65-year-old man has died in south-east Melbourne after his car smashed directly into a brick wall.
Police say the driver had veered off Pound Road in Narre Warren South on Saturday afternoon and the car mounted several traffic islands before crashing into the wall.
The driver was able to get out of the vehicle and was treated at the scene but died a short time later.
The fatality brings the state’s road toll up to 54 compared to 38 at the same time last year.
Police are preparing a report for the coroner.
