Louisville received the top overall seed in the tournament, and the Cardinals were the only No. 1 seed to make it to the Final Four. They rely on their pressure defense and the play of guards Russ Smith and Peyton Siva. Louisville is averaging 12 steals per game while Smith is averaging 26 points per game in the tournament. No. 4 seed Michigan
Michigan has played well throughout the tournament, dominating South Dakota State, Virginia Commonwealth University and Florida and beating Kansas in halftime. Freshman forward Mitch McGary, who had only started a few games before the tournament, has averaged 17.5 points and 11.5 rebounds. The Wolverines also have strong leadership behind sophomore Naismith Finalist Trey Burke, who hit a critical 3-pointer to send Michigan into overtime against Kansas. Michigan will play No. 4 seed Syracuse on Saturday at 8:49 p.m. (ET).
No. 4 seed Syracuse
Syracuse has tripped up its opponents with its 2-3 zone defense, which has held three opponents to 50 points or less. The Orange has also thrived on its field goal defense, which has only allowed 61 made field goals in Syracuse’s first four tournament games. Syracuse will face No. 4 seed Michigan on Saturday at 8:49 p.m. (ET).
No. 9 seed Wichita State
No. 9 Wichita State Shockers had a difficult journey to the Final Four with wins over No. 1 seed Gonzaga and No. 2 seed Ohio State Buckeyes. The Shockers have been resilient and played with confidence. This is the first time a No. 9 seed has made the Final Four since the tournament expanded to 64 teams. The Shockers will face No. 1 seed Louisville on Saturday at 6:09 p.m. (ET).
