Flatbush resident Mindy Meyer is a busy multi-tasker, juggling between her work as a judicial intern for Judge Francois Rivera at the Kings County Supreme Court in Brooklyn and going to law school at night. Now the 22-year-old Orthodox woman is challenging State Senator Kevin Parker for his position in the 21st District.  She will be running on both the Republican and Conservative tickets.

After receiving her BA degree from Touro College in New York, Meyer is currently studying at Touro’s Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center as she embarks on her political career. Her lack of political experience, however, does not daunt her, citing her own religious values and moral compass as her guide.

“I can tell you one thing…I don’t have experience in corruption,” said Meyer. “That is how politics has to change.  There is always corruption but I plan to stick to my values and ensure that none of that goes on in my district.”

Meyer’s endorsement from both parties came rather easily as she ran unopposed. “We filed her petitions on the Conservative party line and we anticipate her being a strong candidate,” Brooklyn’s Conservative Party chairman told Vos Iz Neias. “We were very excited after we met with her and I say she will be formidable and a strong contender.  She has a maturity and an ability well beyond her years.”

If elected, Meyer pledges to make inroads in education by advocating for school vouchers and creating programs for youth-at-risk that will enable them to achieve their academic goals.  Determined to combat violence, Meyer also pledged to deal with racially-motivated police brutality as well as assist women victimized by domestic abuse.

If elected, Meyer plans to transfer to a law school in Albany in order to persist in her studies, while simultaneously acting as a state senator in New York’s capitol.
