A teenage boy charged with setting a woman on fire with intent to murder has been granted bail by a Sydney magistrate.
The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Bidura Children’s Court on Thursday charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Somi Kim with intent to murder.
Ms Kim, 31, was grabbed from behind and set on fire with an accelerant as she walked down busy Chippen Street, in inner-city Chippendale, on March 22.
She was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition with extensive burns to her upper body, including her face.
The teenager, from Cartwright in western Sydney, attended a police station on Wednesday where he was charged.
Magistrate Shane McAnulty granted him bail to appear before the same court on September 11.
A 40-year-old Quakers Hill man is expected to face charges over the incident after he was arrested at Coffs Harbour, on the state’s mid north coast, on Thursday morning.
