Boy, 12, fights off abduction attempt

A 12-year-old boy was grabbed by the hair and pulled towards a waiting car in an abduction attempt in south-east Queensland, police say.

The boy was riding his scooter on the intersection of Cartwright Road and Glen Eden Street, Gympie around 6pm (AEST) on Thursday when he was approached by a man driving a blue sedan who told him to get in the car.

When the boy refused the man grabbed him by the hair and tried to pull him towards the car.

The boy escaped and managed to run to safety.

Police describe the offender of being Caucasian in appearance, approximately 190cm tall and of a muscular build.

He was wearing a black T-shirt with red writing across the front, black board shorts, white socks, dark-coloured skate shoes and a flat-brimmed cap.

The man was unshaven, had stretcher earrings in both earlobes and tattoos on his right arm.
