Boulder Police Harass Homeless and NOBODY ELSE with Smoking Ban

The video above was submitted to CopBlock.org via the submission tab by Darren O’Connor. Attached with the video were the following comments:

Boulder Colorado Smoking Ban

Boulder Colorado Smoking BanOn September 4th, I interviewed Officer Lord after he interrogated a suspect. That suspect, like far too many in Boulder Colorado, was stopped for the crime of being homeless…or holding an unlit cigarette. There is a smoking ban in Boulder but as the video clearly shows, if you’re not perceived as homeless, you can easily enjoy a cigarette in the downtown area. Officer Lord states in the video that if homeless people don’t like being targeted, they are free to leave the city of Boulder, the state of Colorado, or the country.

A second video [in same video] was posted in August that shows a second homeless man who was kneed five times while being pinned to the ground–all for, again, an unlit cigarette.

Boulder City Council claims that the many laws that target homeless people don’t in fact do that. This video shows they clearly do, and that homeless are more the victims of Police brutality than they are of committing crimes.

– Darren O’Connor

Not only does this video show Boulder Police harassing the homeless over ridiculous victimless crime laws, while allowing those who are not to smoke their cigarettes without issue, but it also gives you a glimpse into the mentality of the Modern Day LEO. Officer Lord – I don’t think we could have made up a better name for this guy – is recording saying that people who don’t like “Boulder’s” (as if that was a person) laws can simply leave (Boulder, Colorado or the country).

As discussed over and over here at CopBlock.org, the love it or leave mentality is a very dangerous one. While Lord justifies his actions, based off City Council members giving him the permission(s) to harass people for smoking outside, he shows the nasty side of policing today. Instead of providing help, protection or any service to the homeless he simply tries to eradicate them from the area. There is no sense of community, justice or protection in any of his actions.

Once again bringing to question, “What the hell are we paying these guys for?” To harass homeless people for smoking cigarettes? Please.

Let the Boulder Police know how you feel.
