Kentucky Gov.-elect Matt Bevin made a promise when he campaigned for office that when the Environmental Protection Agency bureaucrats came calling to regulate the coal industry he will tell them to “POUND SAND!”
Amen brother!
In an interview on The Glenn Beck Radio Program the host asked Bevin, “Now that you’re in, President Obama has said that he’s going to destroy the coal industry. Kentucky is a coal state. What are you going to be doing specifically to push back on that?”
Bevin stressed the importance of the coal industry in Kentucky.
“Why it is that we in Kentucky — that sit on two extraordinary basins, the Illinois basin and the Central basin, an abundance of this — how are we not participating in something that the world wants more of than they ever have?” he asked adding, “We will tell the EPA and other un-elected officials who have no legal authority over us as a state, to pound sand.”
Back in August President Barack Obama announced sweeping regulations on coal-fired power plants, calling it “the single most important step the U.S. has ever taken to fight climate change.”
Obama granted the EPA federal authority to ‘control’ what is traditionally a responsibility of the states.
TheBlaze reports that according to Sam Batkins, the director of regulatory policy at American Action Forum, the policy will cost $2.5 trillion and 125,800 jobs, along with shuttering 66 power plants.
Bevin, a Tea Party favorite who became only the second Republican in four decades to win Kentucky’s governorship Tuesday, vowed to stand against the EPA when it comes to protecting his state’s large coal industry.
“Why it is that we in Kentucky — that sit on two extraordinary basins, the Illinois basin and the Central basin, an abundance of this — how are we not participating in something that the world wants more of than they ever have?” Bevin asked. “And so, from my way of thinking, we will tell the EPA and other unelected officials who have no legal authority over us as a state, to pound sand.”
Bevin, a self-described “staunch conservative,” told Beck he believes the 10th Amendment is “one of the most powerful tools” and that power not expressly given to the federal government is the responsibility of the states.
Bevin vows to fight Obama’s EPA and go to court if necessary.
Western Journalism reports:
“The EPA, for example, they don’t have an enforcement arm,” Bevin said. “They use federal dollars. They use our own money. They bribe us with our own money to stick it to ourselves. And we will not do that anymore in the state of Kentucky.”
As a candidate, Bevin vowed to fight Obama’s Clean Power Plan, which requires curbs on greenhouse gas emissions from Kentucky’s coal-rich energy sector. He promised to “not enforce” any federal rules that would hurt Kentucky’s economy.
In his campaign platform, Bevin also vowed to use his office’s “constitutional right to legal discretion when enforcing environmental laws. This may include instructing its regulatory enforcement agencies to ignore federal regulations that are unreasonable and excessive.”
Wow, I like this incoming governor! Congratulations to Kentucky for electing the right man!
