Bombing injures 7 in south Afghanistan

Four American soldiers were injured on Friday when an explosives-laden motorbike targeted a US military convoy in Kandahar’s town of Dand, Kandahar Tooryalai said in a news conference Wesa.

One Afghan police officer and two civilians were also among the casualties from the bombing that occurred at around 2 p.m. local time (0930 GMT), he told reporters.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack in the volatile region, where bombing attacks by Taliban militants are commonplace.

The blast comes amid a new wave of anti-US sentiments in Afghanistan triggered by the US soldiers’ move to burn copies of the Holy Qur’an at an airbase in Bagram, Parwan province.

On Thursday an Afghan soldier and a civilian opened fire on US-led foreign troops in a military outpost in Kandahar, before being killed by return fire.

On Wednesday, at least six people were killed in an attack on the US Nangarhar base in eastern Afghanistan.

Earlier in the day, a car bomb ripped through a group of US-led troops in Lashkar Gah in the southern province of Helmand, leaving a number of casualties among the foreign forces and civilians.
